For making his vision of robust housing growth a reality, Brown is being honored as Deal Maker of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times.
"I've seen a lot of things come across, and it was the single most successful organized effort to bring housing downtown," said Bruce Kern, executive director of regional development group EDAB. "Without the plan and vision and strong push by the mayor and council, the developers would have come, but (Oakland would) not have achieved the result we are seeing."
